A van does more work than most cars. It carries tools, stock and materials, does lots of short stop-start runs and often sits idling on site. That is hard on the engine oil, brakes, clutch and suspension. Regular servicing is the cheapest way to keep it reliable. We follow the schedule your van's manufacturer sets, using parts and oils to the right specification for your engine. Many modern diesel vans need low-ash oil to protect the DPF, and getting that wrong can cause problems down the line. Under block exemption rules, an independent service with manufacturer-spec parts keeps your warranty valid, so you do not have to go back to a dealer. We stamp your book or update your service record every time.
If you run a few vans, we can help you keep on top of them. Tell us your mileage and how the vans are used, and we will keep a note of what each one has had and when the next service is due. Booking the service alongside the MOT, if your van is Class 4, means one trip and less time off the road. Vans over 3,000kg need a Class 7 MOT, which we do not do, but we service and repair those vans all the same.

What a van service includes

- Engine oil and oil filter changed with oil to your manufacturer's specification.
- Air, fuel and cabin filters replaced when your schedule calls for them.
- Brake pads, discs, pipes and hoses inspected and brake fluid checked.
- Coolant, power steering and screenwash levels checked and topped up.
- Tyres checked for tread, damage and pressure, including the spare where fitted.
- Suspension, steering joints, springs and shock absorbers inspected.

Common questions
- How often should I service my van?
- Most van makers set an interval of 12 months or a mileage figure, whichever comes first. The mileage varies a lot by make and engine, and some vans use a variable interval shown on the dash. Vans doing short runs or carrying heavy loads may benefit from more frequent oil changes. Give us your registration and we will check your schedule.
- Which vans do you service?
- All the common makes. We regularly see the Ford Transit and Transit Custom, Mercedes Sprinter, VW Transporter and Caddy, Vauxhall Vivaro, Renault Trafic, Peugeot Boxer and Partner, Citroen Relay and Berlingo, and the Fiat Ducato. - Will an independent service affect my van's warranty?
- No. Block exemption rules mean you can have your van serviced by an independent garage without losing the manufacturer warranty, as long as the work follows the schedule and uses parts and oils to the right specification. We do both, and we record the service so you have proof it was done.
- Why does my diesel van need special oil?
- Many modern diesel vans have a diesel particulate filter, or DPF. Standard oils can leave ash that slowly clogs it. Low-ash oils made to your manufacturer's specification help the DPF last. Using the wrong oil can lead to DPF warnings and costly repairs, so we always match the oil to your engine.
- Can you service my van and do the MOT at the same time?
- Yes, if your van is Class 4, which means a design gross weight of up to 3,000kg. Booking both together saves a second trip. We cannot test Class 7 vans between 3,000kg and 3,500kg, but we can service them and do a pre-MOT check before they go for their test elsewhere.
- Do you look after small fleets?
- Yes. If you run a handful of vans, we can keep a record of each one's servicing and tell you when they are next due. Call us to talk about how your vans are used and we will work out a sensible way to keep them maintained without taking too many off the road at once.
- What if you find something wrong during the service?
- We stop and call you. We explain what we have found, whether it is urgent or can wait, and what it will cost to fix. You decide whether we go ahead. Nothing extra is added to the bill unless you have agreed to it first.
- Will you reset the service light?
- Yes, where the van's system lets us. We use diagnostic equipment to reset service reminders on most makes as part of the service. If a particular van needs dealer-level software for the reset, we will tell you before you book so there are no surprises.
