Older Corsa D and E, Astra J and K, Mokka and Insignia models mostly use GM engines such as the 1.4 turbo and 1.2 petrol, which run timing chains that can stretch and rattle on a cold start if oil changes have slipped. From the Corsa F (2019 on), many petrol models share the PSA 1.2 PureTech engine, which uses a wet belt running in oil instead.
That split matters when you book. We check your registration to see which engine you actually have, then service it with the oil approval Vauxhall lists for that engine. On diesel Astras, Insignias and Vivaro vans we also keep an eye on the DPF, EGR valve and dual-mass flywheel, which are the usual trouble spots on high-mileage examples.

- On 1.2 and 1.4 petrol Vauxhall engines, a short rattle on a cold start is a common sign of a stretched timing chain or a weak tensioner. It is worth getting checked early, because a chain that jumps can badly damage the engine. Call us and we will book it in.
- Does my Corsa have a timing chain or a wet belt?
- It depends on the generation and engine. Most Corsa D and E petrol models have a chain. Many Corsa F petrol models from 2019 have the 1.2 PureTech with a belt that runs in oil. Give us your registration and we will tell you which one you have.
- Can you service my Vauxhall while it is under warranty?
- Yes. Block exemption rules let you use an independent garage without losing the manufacturer warranty, as long as the correct parts and fluids are used and the work is recorded. We do both.
