Why book with us
Renault Trafic Servicing & Repairs Oldbury with clear advice.
The Trafic is a popular mid-size van with tradespeople and small fleets, and we see plenty of them around Oldbury. It shares a lot with the Vauxhall Vivaro A and B, the Nissan Primastar and the Fiat Talento, so the parts and faults are well known to us. We service and repair the Mk2 and Mk3 Trafic at our workshop, plus the smaller Kangoo and the larger Master, following Renault's schedule.
Older Mk2 Trafics often need a new clutch and dual-mass flywheel, and some suffer from injector faults. The 1.9 dCi uses a timing belt, which needs changing on time. The Mk3 with the 1.6 dCi can block its DPF and EGR when it only does short local runs, and later 2.0 Blue dCi vans use AdBlue, which brings its own warnings. We check for all of this as a matter of course.
When your van is off the road you are losing money, so we keep it simple. We find the fault, tell you what is urgent and what can wait, and give you a written quote. Nothing is done until you approve it. We use oils made to Renault's specification, including low-ash oils for vans with a DPF, and under block exemption rules a service with us keeps your warranty valid.
We are a DVSA-approved Class 4 MOT centre, covering vans up to 3,000kg design gross weight. Many Trafics are plated at or under 3,000kg, and the Kangoo always is, so we can test them here. Heavier Trafics and most Masters are plated over 3,000kg and need a Class 7 MOT, which we do not do. We still service and repair them and can do a pre-MOT check first.
We are a family business and have looked after vehicles in Oldbury since 1991. We also see Renault vans from West Bromwich, Rowley Regis, Smethwick and Halesowen. We are open Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:30pm, at 93 Park Lane, Oldbury, B69 4LP, and you are welcome to drop in and talk to us. To book your Trafic in, call us on 0121 544 3736.

Common questions
- Can you MOT my Trafic?
- If it is plated at up to 3,000kg, yes, because it will be Class 4. Many Trafics are, but some are plated heavier and need a Class 7 test, which we do not do. The weight is on the plate in the door pillar or under the bonnet. Call 0121 544 3736 with your registration and we will help you check.
- Is the Trafic the same as the Vivaro?
- The Mk2 and Mk3 Trafic were built alongside the Vauxhall Vivaro A and B, and also sold as the Nissan Primastar and Fiat Talento. They share engines and many parts. That makes parts easy to source, and the faults we see on one usually apply to the others.
- When does my Trafic need a timing belt?
- It depends on the engine. The 1.9 dCi uses a timing belt that must be changed at the interval Renault sets, because a failed belt can badly damage the engine. Some other Trafic engines use a timing chain. Give us your registration and we will tell you what your van has and when it is due.
- Why does my Trafic judder when moving off?
- Judder from a standstill usually means a worn clutch or dual-mass flywheel. Heavy loads, towing and stop-start work speed up the wear. A rattle at idle that goes when you press the clutch points to the flywheel. We road test the van and tell you what is worn before quoting.
- Why does my Trafic keep going into limp mode?
- Limp mode cuts power to protect the engine. On Trafics it is often linked to a blocked DPF, an EGR fault, a boost problem or, on newer vans, an AdBlue fault. We scan the van and check live data to find the cause, then explain what it needs before doing any work.
- Do you work on the Kangoo and Master?
- Yes. We service and repair both. The Kangoo is a small van and is always Class 4, so we can MOT it here. Most Masters are plated at 3.5 tonnes and need a Class 7 test elsewhere, but we can service, repair and prepare them for it.
- Will using you affect my Renault warranty?
- No. Block exemption rules let an independent garage service your van without losing the manufacturer warranty, as long as the work follows the schedule and uses parts and oils to the right specification. We do both and record every service.
- How do I book my Trafic in?
- Call us on 0121 544 3736 or drop in to 93 Park Lane, Oldbury, B69 4LP. We are open Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:30pm. Tell us the registration and what the van is doing, and we will give you a clear quote before we start.
