Why pre-MOT checks save money

A failed MOT means a retest and more downtime. A pre-MOT check lets us spot issues and fix them before the real test. You pay for one set of work instead of MOT plus repairs plus retest.

Check your lights thoroughly

Lights are one of the biggest fail points. Walk around your car and make sure every light — headlights, brake lights, reversing lights, fog lights, indicators — is working. Check that bulbs are clean and not just dim. A cracked lens will fail even if the bulb is fine.

Tyres are critical

Tyres must have a minimum of 1.6mm tread depth. Measure tread depth with a coin or tread gauge. Uneven wear, bulges, or visible damage are all fail points. Pressure also matters — under-inflated tyres will not pass.

Brakes and steering

Brakes need to feel firm and work without noise. Listen for grinding or squealing. Steering should be smooth without knocks. Worn suspension components make the steering feel vague — the examiner will spot it.

Windscreen and wipers

Chips or cracks in your line of sight are a fail. Wipers need to work smoothly and clear the screen without streaking. If your wipers are torn or slow, replace them.
